Derek Humphry comments on the indictments today of the Final Exit
Network volunteers in Atlanta:

I welcome this case at last coming to trial (probably early next year)
so that the law in the USA can be clarified on whether it is acceptable
to help competent adults who are in terminal suffering and wish to die.

It is likely to become the most significant case on this particular
issue ever tested in this country.

Today, on top of the expected indictments of the four individuals,
an indictment for alleged racketeering has also been brought against the
Final Exit Network as a nonprofit corporation. This was unexpected.
Extra lawyers will be needed to defend this charge.

The alleged racketeering is apparently the sending out of informational
flyers from the Network office which was in Atlanta. (No longer!)

The defence legal team and witnesses are ready to go to court -- and we
shall prevail. An early trial is welcome.

How strange it is that while Oregon, Washington and Montana have lawful
medically assisted dying, there is this harassment by law enforcement in
  Georgia and Arizona?

The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Albania and Switzerland also have
laws that permit -- under guidelines --- access to voluntary euthanasia
in various ways.
