Were it seen in the United States, Irish journalist Jon Ronson’s
documentary Reverend Death might revive a national conversation about
assisted suicide. Chronicling the actions of minister George Exoo, who
helps people take their own lives. The film goes to the center of an
issue that has flown below the radar ever since Jack Kevorkian, the
Michigan pathologist, flashily campaigned for terminal patients’ right
to die. Joyce Gemperlein continues to uncover the highly contentious
points of view today in Obit Magazine [http://www.obit-mag.com.

Roland Halpern, director of community relations for Compassion &
Choices, an advocacy and education organization for the terminally ill
who want to end their lives, decries Exoo’s activities.

“You have such underground things because we don’t have aid-in-dying
legislation.” Halpern says. Operations such as Exoo’s “diminish the
whole purpose of working with terminally ill patients to explore all of
their end-of-life options.”
